Technical Visit on the Role of Simulator in Flight Safety

Date, Time & Venue

22 October 2005 (Sat); 8:30 am – 12:00 pm;

Flight Training Centre, Cathay City,
Hong Kong International Airport, Lantau Island

Programme Highlights

To ensure air travel is of high quality, safe and reliable, commercial airline pilots are trained extensively to act in many emergency scenarios including those rare but potentially catastrophic situations.  While real time flight training is costly and cannot ensure that all scenarios are covered for obvious safety reasons, flight simulators have been regarded as an essential tool in training pilots.  In this technical visit, we will visit the Flight Training Centre of the Cathay Pacific Airways.  We will learn the role and application of flight simulators in providing effective safety training to pilots in a 3-D virtual environment.

Cathay Pacific Airways is a public airways corporation charged with the task of operating and developing worldwide flight services in a prudent commercial manner.  Through this visit, members will have chance to appreciate the modern simulation technology with the help of the electrical signal and mechanical movement and the way of how pilots are trained.  Participants may be able to fly the full-ranged motion Boeing 747 simulator for hands on experience in how a pilot is trained.
